If you think generating large, steady streams of traffic is a mysterious black art, I have news for you. There are really only two reasons why you aren't getting all the traffic you need for your business. And I mean getting it on a consistent basis and growing your list month-in and month-out.

Reason #1: The vast majority of traffic generation methods have a built-in "failure mechanism" and are rigged against you. That's right, they're intentionally designed to make sure you get lukewarm results or fail completely.

Take pay-per-click traffic for example. It doesn't matter if it's Google, Yahoo, Bing or any other search engine. The entire playing field is intentionally tilted against you.

Every day, you're competing for the top position on these search engines — and paying through the nose to try to capture it. But what do the search engines do? They hide the rules or change them at a moment's notice to prevent you from capturing those coveted top positions.

Why? Because if you could buy and maintain a top ranking for any keyword, then people they would always get the same results when they searched on a keyword. And once that happened, people would stop using the search engines, which would make it impossible for Google and friends to charge the outrageous fees they currently get for even mediocre keywords.

Similar things happen almost daily with social media, video marketing, blogging, inbound links, SEO, mobile marketing… and just about every form of traffic generation you can think of. They're constantly changing the rules to keep you and everyone else off balance or their offerings will go stale and quickly fail to be profitable.

So whether you like it or not, you're paying companies your hard earned money and they're actually working against you, trying to prevent you from achieving your goal.

Reason #2: Because you're at the mercy of so many forms of traffic generation that are designed to predictably fall short of your goals, you're forced to try to master many different traffic generation methods. So many, that it practically becomes a second career.
